A third of all murders are drug related (gang wars over turf, etc)

A large percentage of the prostitution, thefts, and robberies are drug related.

Those two "facts" were copied and pasted directly from a page promoting drugs!  The owner of the page was using them for the argument as to why drugs should be legalized.  That in itself tells you why drugs are such a problem.  Most people know the facts, but refuse to recognize that drugs are the problem (not the answer)!

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,

June 26

The General Assembly decided to observe June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation at all levels to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. It took that action on December 7, 1987, (resolution 42/112) , following a recommendation of the 1987 International Conference on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which, on June 26, had adopted the Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Outline of Future Activities in Drug Abuse Control

On February 23, 1990, the Assembly adopted a Global Program of Action to combat illegal drugs, and stated that the International Day was to be observed as part of the effort to raise public awareness about fighting drug abuse and to promote preventive measures.

I am going to leave most of the explaining to the professionals.  Here you will find some of the very basic information and some very good resource links.

Meth amphetamine (meth) are quickly finding there way into the doors of our homes.  Studies indicate that use in teenagers is raising fast.

Meth is a schedule 2 drug in VA and it's a class 5 felony to have even the smallest amount!

meth is a stimulant which speeds up the body and brain.  It's effect on the nevus system is serious.

Meth names include; speed, meth, chalk, ice, crystal, glass, crank, and cat.

Meth comes in pills, powder, or chunky clear crystals

meth is taken by mouth, nose, inhaled, or injected

Meth labs are extremely dangerous!!!!  The chemicals used to make these drugs are very explosive!!

Some varieties of meth are mixed with acid and can be lethal if taken in this form

think you know someone using meth??  visit Get It Straight

MARIJUANA USE IS ALMOST AS COMMON AS ALCOHOL USE AMONG TEENAGERS

Marijuana (pot) is a herbaceous tropical plant of the hemp family containing high amounts of thc (depending on plant, how its grown and the part of the plant being used).

Depending on the amount, possession of marijuana is either a class one misdemeanor of a felony in VA.  Under certain circumstances it is a felony to grow marijuana in VA.

Pot is smoked through a hand rolled cigarette, pipe or bong.  Pipes and bongs are made from just about anything and can be bought for as little as $5.00 or as much as $200 depending on the size and items used to make them (i would imagine if you wanted to make a pipe or bong out of some precious metals, you could probably spend more).

Pot is a plant and is dried before use.  It resembles dried grass and is  normally packaged in plastic sandwich bags.  When the bag gets low, the pot is shook to the bottom corner.  The bottom corner is then twisted off to make sure that none is wasted.

Marijuana is usually the starting point for any junkie (remember you have to learn to crawl before you walk)!!  Don't think for a minute that you child is just experimenting (curiosity killed the cat)!!

Cocaine is derived from the coca plant.  Because the coca plant needs tropical climates to be grown, most cocaine is manufactured outside the United States.  Coca plants are a major source of income for some third world countries, hence the reason why some countries refuse to combat the growing of the plant (which has very few other practical purposes).

Cocaine is a Schedule 2 drug and it is a class 5 felony to posses even the smallest traces.

Cocaine or coke can be found in many forms from powders, rocks, and oils or liquids.

Coke is most commonly snorted or injected!

Because it has to be imported into the US, the cost of coke is fairly high.  That doesn't make it scarce.  Most people become addicted after the first couple of uses and will do almost anything to get the money for their new found habit.

Coke is commonly mixed with speed to make an eight ball.  In this form it is extremely dangerous and heart failure is common if the dose is to high.

People on coke can become very violent and posses great strength.  I recall an incident in New York where a user was shot eight times in the chest with a large caliber pistol by police before he finally stopped coming at them.

Acid is a chemically made drug which causes hallucinations or a "trip".  A person can suffer from flashbacks years after taking the drug and can begin "tripping" without warning.  It stays in your spinal cord forever and has disastrous effects on your central nervous system.

Acid is blotted on small sheets of paper and is usually placed under the tongue.  Most people take vitamin c or drink orange juice while doing the drug (it's supposed to help the effect).

People have been known to place it on stamps and send the letters to a friend who may not otherwise have access to the drug (not going to give anyone any further ideas on this one)

Some people become very paranoid when using acid and have what is referred as a "bad trip".  These people can be extremely dangerous!  They can not distinguish reality from hallucination.  For all they know you are the boggy man trying to kill them with a toilet plunger.

As the photo shows, acid is commonly packaged in small (very small) plastic zip lock bags.  most bags will have the pusher's symbol on them.

pharmaceutical or prescription drugs are probably the most commonly misused drugs of all.  There effects and side effects vary about as much as there looks.  Packaging, well about anything and anywhere.  Depending on the chemical make up, the amount and circumstances, illegal possession of these can vary from a class 4 misdemeanor to a class 5 felony.  Remember the only way to legally posses a rx drug is to have it in it's prescription bottle with your name and the complete label on it.

For more information on rx drugs refer to this link:

If you or someone you know is addicted to a drug, legal or not, don't waste any time getting help.  I have worked overdoses on kids in there teens to adults in their forties.  There may not be a tomorrow.  Go now, don't "waste" another second.

One day a man was driving his regular route to work and noticed that the same man was standing around the corner from his house.  He was leaning in yet another car window.  "Must be selling drugs" he thought to himself.  "Why don't the police ever do something about him?" he wondered.  Later that day he received a call from his wife at work.  She was crying and screaming something about his son and that he needed to get to the hospital.
At the hospital, he was told that his son had taken an overdose and he was in critical condition.  The doctor was frank when he said he didn't think he would live more than a few hours.  The doctor explained that his son had gotten a hold of some marijuana laced with crack.  The dose was too high for his son's body to handle and had sent him into a coma.
Angered the father went to the lobby and started yelling at the officer the local police department had sent to investigate.  The officer explained to the father that they had made an arrest based on the son's statement.  The officer informed the father that his son had stopped just around the corner from their house on his way to school and bought the marijuana.  The dealer that was arrested had not yet been reported by anyone to the department, had never been arrested before, and the task force had no clue he was working that corner.  If only someone would have cared enough to call us, the officer stated, we could have tried to send an undercover in.  It may have helped, but who knows!

Every day dealers and pushers go undetected because everyone assumes that the "cops" know and just ain't doin' nothin' about it.  It takes time to build drug cases and lots of information.  The more information the better the case and the faster the arrest!  Did the above really happen?  Don't know!  But I don't want to be the one it happens to.  It is true that you can report any crime related information without giving a name, but the United States Constitution guarantees us the right to be faced by our accusers.  This being the case information is great, but information along with someone willing to accompany us to court is a slam dunk!  Let's be pushers ourselves and push these people behind bars!  Report suspected drug information to your local law enforcement agency.
